First time black flies in the Maple Grove area in a sandy park playground west of Eagle Lake. Numerous bites with large welts. Kids playing in the sand mostly. Park on edge of open grassy area and woods on the other side. No running creeks in immediate area but creek outcroppings in varying locations before being channeled underground in conduits. Thanks for the information. For preventive measures against black flies, check out the MMCD website: https://mmcd.org/biting-gnat-control/
Is there anyway to request treatment for the Vermilion River? Our children are being seriously bite by these black flies.
We are investigating the problem but because the black flies have already emerged from the river, a treatment would not be useful at this time. Personal protection measures, such as wearing light colored-clothing, long pants/shirts and others listed here https://mmcd.org/biting-gnat-control/ can help.
